How Taximail customers can prepare for Gmail and Yahoo’s new sender requirements that will take effect on February 2024.

Google and Yahoo are implementing new guidelines for bulk senders to protect against spam and improve deliverability. How Taximail customers can prepare for new sender requirements

Many bulk senders don’t appropriately secure and configure their system, allowing attackers to easily infiltrate. To help fix that, there are crucial aspects of email security: the validation that the sender is who they claim to be. It sounds basic but sometimes it is impossible to verify who an email is from given the web not everyone is knowledgeable to check the sender name.

New requirements for email senders:

1. Large senders or anyone sending to more than 5,000 Gmail or Yahoo email addresses on a single day.

2. Anyone uses Gmail email address as their “ From” email address sending through any email service provider (ESP), regardless of sending volume or the email domain of their recipients.

Fundamentals Principles for Emails Deliverability

Your Domain

Your domain reputation the most important factor for email delivery at Gmail. It is even more important that you IP reputation. Gmail has an intelligent machine learning model that tracks the activity of every domain. Domains carry a special weight at Gmail so you should use as few domains as possible. Keep a good reputation. Using new domains will have insufficient deliverability for at least few weeks as it builds a positive reputation. By sending fewer email first and increase gradually will help you build a good reputation.

Engagement

Recipient engagement is they key to deliverability to Gmail. Practice sending emails to those recipients who have opted to receive your e-mail and have a positive interactions with you email.

Positive interactions means:

  • Opening
  • Replying
  • Forwarding
  • Marking as not spam
  • Dragging message to inbox
  • Marking/Starring as Important

Negative interactions means:

  • Marking as spam
  • Not reading
  • Deleting without reading
  • Marking as phishing

Important keywords you need to know the meaning first

SPF

SPF prevents spammers from sending unauthorized messages that appear to be from your domain. Set up SPF by publishing an SPF record at your domain. The SPF record for your domain should reference all email senders for your domain. If third-party senders aren't included in your SPF record, messages from these senders are more likely to be marked as spam.

DKIM

Turn on DKIM for the domain that sends your email. Receiving servers use DKIM to verify that the domain owner actually sent the message.

DMARC

DMARC lets you tell receiving servers what to do with messages from your domain that don’t pass SPF or DKIM. Set up DMARC by publishing a DMARC record for your domain. To pass DMARC authentication, messages must be authenticated by SPF and/or DKIM. The authenticating domain must be the same domain that's in the message From: header. Learn how to add a DMARC record at your domain.

If you use an email marketing platform, verify that they can authenticate your domain’s email with SPF and DKIM. With regards to DMARC, the domain owner should be the one to control by themselves.

In case email marketing platform support verify process but use free email domain as a from email domain (never use your own domain as a from email) it's mean you cannot start verify domain process too. Try consider to change from domain to another domain.

How to implement this in your Taximail?

At Taximail before you can send any marketing and transactional emails you need to verify your that you are using that domain or have a permission to access that domain. This helps protects your sender reputation.
